Next year, the scheme for purchasing new electric vehicles will be extended, and anyone buying a new electric vehicle, including motorcycles, will be eligible for a grant ranging from a maximum of €2,000 for motorcycles to a maximum of €8,000 for cars and small vans, subject to some new conditions.
This means that the subsidy has dropped by €3,000 or around 30% from the €11,000 being made available this year.
Additionally, a grant will be provided for the scrapping of old vehicles, with €1,000 available for cars and vans. The additional financial grant of €1,000 for scrapping old vehicles registered in Gozo will also be maintained. This scheme is planned to be funded by European Funds under the Recovery and Resilience Fund.
The government will commit that when customers have ordered a new electric car by today, 28th October 2024, but for some reason, the vehicle will not be registered in 2024, these contracts will still be honoured. They will be eligible to apply for this year’s current grant of €11,000, even if the car is registered in 2025.
