European Greens call on Jill Stein to step down from the US presidential race and endorse Vice-President Kamala Harris

The European Greens have issued a statement calling on US Presidential candidate Jill Stein to step down from the presidential race and endorse Vice-President Kamala Harris. While it is not unusual for European political parties to endorse a US presidential candidate, it is uncommon for European parties to make strategic electoral calls of this nature. The statement stresses that “The stakes of these elections could not be higher”.

The European Greens stressed that Europe needs to urgently work with a Kamala Harris Presidency on climate change and fear that climate policies will be dismantled with a Donald Trump Presidency. The Greens also cited the Middle East as reason for their position claiming that “Europe needs a reliable partner to bring peace in the Middle East.”

The Green Party of the United States issued a response to the European Greens, requesting to communicate with them directly before issuing such statements. The Green Party of the US accused the European Greens of staying silent on the genocide in Gaza and that Democrats won’t do much for climate change. Jill Stein’s Party also argued that their voters wouldn’t have voted for either the Democrat or the Republic presidential candidate in any case.

Greenhouse-gas emissions have been going down in the United States thanks to climate change policies by Democrat administrations.

Jill Stein has in the past defended Vladimir Putin’s regime and Syrian dictatorship of Bashar al-Assad.

The statement by the European Greens was signed by the Green Parties of Belgium, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Moldova, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Poland and Ukraine.
