Prominent Maltese artist Raymond Pitrè passes away at age 84

Surreal artist Raymond Pitrè has passed away earlier this week at age 84. Born in 1940, Raymond Pitrè was one of the most prominent abstract artists of the 1970s. He was commissioned to paint the official portrait of Prime Minister Dom Mintoff, which today hangs in the Auberge de Castille. He also represented Malta at the Venice Biennale in 1999 and exhibited his works across Europe apart from exhibiting in New York and Kyoto. His works can be found in various books by Maltese poets and authors and he was awarded with the Member of  the National Order of  Merit of the Republic of Malta in 2000.

His works will soon be exhibited at MICAS to celebrate him.
