Earlier today, the President of Georgia Salome Zourabichvili gave a speech at the European Parliament saying that Georgians are currently protesting to get their voice back after the the elections were stolen by the incumbent ruling-party Georgian Dream. The President made a strong statement as she emphasised that Georgians only protest to the current scale of protests when they feel an existential threat, highlighting the importance of Georgia’s fight for democracy for the Georgian people.
On Georgia’s European Union Membership, the Geogian President said that the Georgian government has broken the constitution for suspending accession talks with the EU because the Georgian constitution states that the government should work for more Euro-Atlantic integration. She added that the states’ institutions have all been captured by the ruling-party creating effectively an authoritarian state.
She also highlighted Russia’s role in subjugating Georgia through a prolonged process that began with the 2008 invasion and is now being consolidated by the puppet regime currently in power. Concluding, the President appealed the EU to use its leverage to help the Georgian people restore their democracy.
