According to the latest migration statistics, European Union member states issued 112,335 migration orders to non-EU citizens in the third quarter of 2023.
During the same period, 27,740 persons were expelled from the European Union or its member states. This marks a 13 percent increase in returns compared to the previous quarter, where only 5,000 individuals were expelled, which means that the latter’s cases were returned around three hundred percent more times.
In yearly comparisons, the number of people who had received orders to leave the EU and the total number of deportations increased by four percent and thirty five percent respectively which demonstrates that the enforcement of migration laws in the region has become more active.
Key Nationalities and Destinations
Among those ordered to leave were the following nationalities: Moroccans and Syrians, both of whom contributed 10% of the orders alongside Algerians-turned 7%. A significant 11% of total Georgians were deported alongside 7% of both the Turks and the Albanians.
EU Member States with the Highest Activity
France issued the most orders (30,800 reasons to leave the EU) followed by Germany (13,660) and Spain (13,645). Additionally, France, Germany and Spain recorded 3,655, 3,260 and 3,160 respectively which depicts the total number of expelled, that is deported from third countries after receiving cancellation of residing orders.
