A 79-year-old man crashed his car into several persons and stalls at the Saturday morning market in Zabbar. Preliminary reports indicate this was an accident as the man pressed the gas pedal instead of the clutch or brake.
11 persons were taken to the hospital following the incident. Their condition is still not known. Health Minister Jo Etienne Abela confirmed that eight of these are in stable condition. Earlier a police spokesperson told the media that 6 persons were injured.
The Zabbar square was packed with people as this is usually a busy moment in the town. Footage from the scene shows large amounts of debris and broken stalls.
