In an interview that has just been aired on Al-Arabiya, the state-owned Saudi Arabian television channel, Syrian leader Ahmed al-Sharaa said that elections in Syria will be held in four years after the drawing up of a constitution and a national census. He also stated that peaceful protest is a right of all Syrians, and praised the Saudis efforts to invest and help in the reconstruction of Syria.
On the Kurdish issue, Ahmed al-Sharaa reiterated that the SDF and Kurdish armed forces should lay down their weapons and integrate themselves with the official Syrian army. He also denied any possible scenario for federalisation. The Kurdish armed forces are refusing to lay down their weapons and are instead on the offensive against the Turkish-backed Syrian National Army.
On the Russian bases in Syria, Ahmed al-Sharaa said they will remain as Syria intends to preserve its decades-old strategic relationship with Russia. He also reiterated that Syria has no intention to go to war with any neighbouring country and that the government is fully focused on reconstruction.
