Michael Farrugia to replace Randolph Debattista in the European Parliament Assembly

Labour backbencher MP Michael Farrugia will replace Randolph Debattista as the government’s representative in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. The Council of Europe, a seperate entity from the European Council, has 306 member-state and promotes democracy, human rights and rule-of-law.

Michael Farrugia was Minister for Home Affairs from 2017 to 2020 and Minister for Energy in 2020. He was a support of Prime Minister Joseph Muscat until the last day he left office.

Randiolph Debattista resigned from Member of Parliament and was appointed as Ambassador to Geneva, Switzerland last year. He was also the CEO of the Labour Party.
