Fighting for criminals instead fighting crime

The Ministry of Justice has issued a statement replying to Matthew Caruana Galizia’s comments, saying they are politicised and that the Attorney-General requested the Court to refuse bail and headed to trial.

The Minister for Justice, Jonathan Attard, is so confident in his control over the Office of the Attorney General that he feels entitled to speak on its behalf, even attributing its actions to the government’s supposed positive efforts in justice.

Matthew Caruana Galizia is correct in stating that the justice system is skewed in favor of criminals. He is also right in asserting that the government is working more for criminals than for victims. In fact, the Minister for Justice’s latest efforts have focused on restricting citizens’ right to request Magisterial Inquiries.
