Yesterday evening, thousands of people gathered in the capital city of Slovakia and other city centres to protest against government corruption and Prime Minister Robert Fico’s pro-Russian policies. Slovakia is currently going through an energy crisis with rising electricity prices after Russian gas flows from Ukraine have been halted. Prime Minister Robert Fico is insisting with Ukraine to re-start gas flows instead of pursuing other alternatives.
The Slovakian Prime Minister is currently embroiled in a corruption scandal following revelations that he secretly traveled to Vietnam after his visit to Moscow earlier this year. Prime Minister Fico didn’t announce his trip to Vietnam and spent his nights there at the Capella Hanoi Hotel where he recorded a video threatening Ukraine’s President Zelensky of an energy blockage if he didn’t re-start Russian gas flows. The suite in which Prime Minister Fico recorded the video is rented for up to €6,000 per night. The Prime Minister recorded the video showing only a curtain as a background so as to hide his real location, but an eagle-eyed viewer recognised the suite.
