The Lendava Tournament in Slovenia brought together 336 judoka from 55 clubs across 8 countries in an exciting display of talent and competition. Representing Malta, a dedicated delegation of young athletes competed across three age categories, achieving commendable results on the international stage.
The Maltese team included:
- Cadets: Miguel Mintoff (-55kgs), Samy Ibnass (-66kgs), and Antonio Overend (-66kgs).
- U14: Andreas Cachia Difesa (-34kgs), Sophia Felice (-40kgs), and Mattea Mintoff (-44kgs).
- U12: Aleksander Sitek (-38kgs).
Accompanied by their coach Francesco Aiello, the team secured impressive results:
- 1 Silver Medal: Sophia Felice (-40kgs).
- 3 Bronze Medals: Miguel Mintoff (-55kgs), Antonio Overend (-66kgs), and Mattea Mintoff (-44kgs).
- One 5th Place: Andreas Cachia Difesa (-34kgs).
- One 7th Place: Aleksander Sitek (-38kgs).
- One 9th Place: Samy Ibnass (-66kgs).
The Maltese judoka demonstrated their skill and determination, completing 20 successful actions that resulted in scores and securing victory in 14 contests.
This tournament highlights the growing strength of Malta’s Judo youth team, showcasing the results of continuous investment in their development. The achievements of these athletes would not have been possible without the unwavering support of their families, as well as the backing of the Maltese Olympic Committee and SportMalta.
