Cartoon Network (Lovin Malta) getting acquired by a shitcoin salesman is exactly what I would have expected. Earlier today, Lovin Malta announced that it is being acquired by Alexandre Dreyfus of Chiliz. Apparently, he even has a new venture capital fund called “Qamar Ventures”. His crypto business is based in Malta and has also been living here for a number of years.
Well, without any sarcasm, I applaud this man if he is using his capital to invest in Maltese companies, but it is also good to point out who he is. Alexandre Dreyfus is one of the earliest crypto industry “entrepreneurs” who got successful sellingย shitcoins mainly Chiliz and its related tokens. He started a trend about “sports tokens” and most of them are down bad since their highs, including Chiliz. I never investigated his work because he was never a very significant player in the crypto industry, but he is well connected and even helped CZ set up Binance’s company in Malta when he came to Malta for the first time. Dreyfus is also based in Malta.
Alexandre Dreyfus built a successful image and brand behind his shitcoin activities which eventually enabled him to consolidate himself as a legitimate businessman. The sports token business is simply a way to extract money from gullible fans who are compelled to believe that their shit-tokens will someday be worth some value.
The emergence of foreign investors in the local media landscape will also continue strengthen our case on government subsidies and adverts to the sector on the principle of either all or none. From a commercial point of view, we at The Maltese Herald see his acquisition of Lovin Malta as potentially opening more opportunities for the press industry, but these will inevitably effect editorial decisions. We think this situation will further strengthen our position, apart from further highlighting our integrity and editorial independence.
