According to a recent investigation by the United Nations Security Council, Hurd’s Bank is being regularly used to sell trafficked oil, via ship-to-ship transfers. Large quantities of this oil are coming from Libya where oil smuggling is still extensive. Eastern Libya and Benghazi is also being used to bunker oil bought from Hurd’s Bank. Russian oil vessels are also selling oil in the area.
The extensive investigation by the United Nations Security Council lists a large number of ships that were spotted in Hurd’s Bank trafficking oil. Some of these ships also have Maltese flags, while others are suspected to be owned by Maltese owners. We are also making some verifications.
Earlier this year, we confirmed that large quantities of oil were sold to Nigeria in Hurd’s Bank.
We will have more updates about the investigation later.
