Women live longer and live poorer than men – ECB President Christine Lagarde

In her opening speech at the European Central Bank’s event in commemoration of Women’s Day, ECB President Christine Lagarde gave an overview of women’s literacy and financial situation in Europe.

60% of Europeans who are financially illiterate are women marking a massive gap of twenty percentage points with men. According to the ECB President this is one of the reasons why women tend to live poorer than men. There are 7% less women than men with the ability to set money aside for an emergency.
