Ħamrun Spartans are in discussions with coach Winston Muscat as a potential interim manager until the end of the season, informed sources told The Maltese Herald.
This development comes amid growing pressure on the club following a dip in form. CEO Marcel Bonnici confirmed on the TV programme Replay that a decision on the coaching situation is expected within the next 48 hours. Talks with Muscat are scheduled to take place shortly, with an official announcement possibly being made later today.
However, informed sources indicate that Ħamrun are also considering at least two other candidates as they evaluate the best possible option to lead the team for the remainder of the campaign. The club’s management is carefully assessing their choices to ensure a strategic appointment that aligns with their ambitions.
A Crucial Period for the Spartans
The Spartans currently sit in fifth place with 14 points, trailing the league leaders by four points. Following two consecutive defeats, pressure is mounting on the team to regain momentum. A top-two finish in the Closing Round is essential for the Spartans to force a playoff and keep their title defense hopes alive.
With time running out in the season, the club’s decision in the coming hours could prove pivotal in shaping their campaign’s outcome.
