In February 2025, Malta’s industrial producer price index experienced a 0.5% decrease compared to the same month in 2024, as reported by the National Statistics Office (NSO).
The decline was primarily influenced by a 3.5% reduction in prices for intermediate goods. Conversely, capital goods and consumer goods saw price increases of 1.4% each. The energy sector remained stable with no price changes.
Domestic market producer prices rose by 0.8%, driven by a 2.8% increase in consumer goods and a 0.4% uptick in both intermediate and capital goods. In contrast, non-domestic market prices fell by 1.7%, with goods destined for non-euro area countries dropping by 2.7% and those for euro area countries decreasing by 0.4%.
Compared to January 2025, the overall industrial producer price index declined slightly by 0.1% in February. This marginal decrease resulted from a 1.1% drop in intermediate goods prices. However, consumer goods and capital goods experienced price increases of 0.6% and 0.4%, respectively, while the energy sector showed no change.
Domestic market prices increased by 0.4%, attributed to a 1.6% rise in consumer goods and a modest 0.1% increase in intermediate goods. Prices for energy and capital goods remained unchanged. On the other hand, non-domestic market prices decreased by 0.6%, with goods destined for the euro area and non-euro area declining by 0.7% and 0.5%, respectively.
