Chamber of Architects removes license from architects responsible over Miriam Pace’s death: Attorney-General delayed investigation for a year

The Chamber of Architects (Il-Kamra tal-Periti) has officially removed the professional license of the architects involved in the death of Miriam Pace, namely Roderick Camilleri and Anthony Mangion. Roderick Camilleri is also a shareholder the same construction company that killed Miriam Pace: MCZMC Developers Limited. The architects were previously fined between €8,000 and €10,000 and sentenced to up to 400 hours of community service each by the court for their negligence that led to the death of Miriam Pace.

The Attorney-General delayed an investigation by the Chamber of Architects for over a year after she refused to hand over Court documents related to the case of Miriam Pace’s death. Judge Aaron Bugeja of the Appeals Court eventually granted the Chamber access to the documents, citing that the Chamber is, according to the law, a regulatory body overseeing the profession.

The Chamber found Roderick Camilleri to be in breach of professional standards while Anthony Mangion was also failed to comply with professional standards and practices. Roderick Camilleri’s warrant was suspended for twenty-eight months while Anthony Mangion’s warrant was suspended for fourteen months.

Miriam Pace tragically lost her life on March 2, 2020, when her home in Hamrun collapsed as construction workers excavated an adjacent plot for a new development. She was inside the house at the time of the collapse.
