Earlier this week on Thursday, Lithuanians took to the streets of Vilnius to pay homage to four US soldiers who died in an accident on the border of Belarus in a NATO exercise. The incident occurred on March 25th when the soldiers were operating a Hercules vehicle that got stuck in a swamp. The team were on a mission to recover another vehicle.
The recovery effort took several days with the final body recovered on April 1st. The soldiers who were killed in the accident were Staff Sgt. Troy S. Knutson-Collins, Staff Sgt. Jose Duenez Jr., Staff Sgt. Edvin F. Franco, and Pfc. Dante D. Taitano.
The government of Lithuania organsied a solemn procession to pay homage to the fallen US soldiers with a procession that passed through Cathedral Square, attended by schoolchildren, political figures, President Gitanas Nausėda, and US Ambassador Kara C. McDonald.
