Bormla Subbuteo Club Triumphs Again at Vienna Grand Prix

Bormla Subbuteo Club enjoyed a remarkable weekend at the Vienna Grand Prix, claiming the prestigious team title for the third time and securing multiple podium finishes in the individual competitions.


Strong Showings in Individual Events

On Saturday, George Ebejer led the charge in the Open category, reaching the final after a series of impressive victories. He defeated Portugalโ€™s Ramos in the quarter-finals, and overcame teammate Wolfgang Haas in the semi-final, before narrowly losing to Italyโ€™s Saverio Bari in the final.

It was an all-Bormla presence in the top four, with Jean Carl Tabone also reaching the semi-finals and finishing joint third after losing to Bari. The result marked a triple podium for Bormla SC in the Open competitionโ€”a rare feat.

In the Veterans category, Charles Aquilina made it to the semi-finals before falling to Greeceโ€™s Papakonstantinou, while in the Ladies event, Austrian player Kathy Waldorf Busch, also representing Bormla SC, emerged as the winner, further underlining the clubโ€™s dominance.


Team Glory on Sunday

The winning continued on Sunday, as Bormla SC claimed first place in the team event, defeating St. Stembert of Belgium 2-0 in a thrilling final.

In the group stage, Bormla finished top of Group 1 with two wins and two draws:

  • 2-0 vs Atlas (Greece)

  • 1-1 vs Phoenix (Austria)

  • 1-1 vs Royal Kaisermรผhlen (Austria)

  • 4-0 vs Gorizia (Italy)

In the semi-final, Bormla overwhelmed Royal B with a commanding 4-0 win to book their place in the final.
