Assikura Women’s Knock-Out: Final Four Set for Thrilling Semi-Finals

The Assikura Women’s Knock-Out competition has reached its semi-final stage. Reigning champions Birkirkara and league winners Swieqi United are both out of the picture, so a new name is guaranteed on the trophy this season.

In the first semi-final, Hibernians face San Ġwann in what promises to be a compelling encounter. The Paolites booked their place in the final four after edging out Swieqi in a tense penalty shootout following a goalless draw. Midfielder Kayleigh Chetcuti held her nerve to convert the winning spot-kick, putting Hibs on course for a third straight Knock-Out final.

Their opponents, San Ġwann, will be aiming to cause a shock. Currently battling in the Bottom Four of the league, they reached the semis with an impressive quarter-final win over Valletta. The team’s standout performer, Hailey Russell, leads the league’s scoring charts with 27 goals and will be a major threat to the Hibernians defence.

Second semi-final sees Mġarr United take on Lija Athletic.

Mġarr come into the match full of momentum after a commanding 3-1 victory over Birkirkara. In this match, Colombian striker Valeria Villegas stealing the spotlight with a stunning hat-trick. Additionally, Mgarr are a regular Top Four finisher, Mġarr are considered strong favourites to progress to the final.

But Lija Athletic have proven their attacking quality, having seen off Mtarfa 4-2 in a lively quarter-final. They’ll need another spirited display to overcome a confident and in-form Mġarr side boasting one of the most dangerous forward lines in the competition.

With everything to play for, both ties promise high drama as the race for the Assikura Knock-Out crown nears its climax.
