Teacher-author of history workbook confirms it is up to 14-years old

Following the publication of this story showing the recourses provided to children studying history in schools, the author of the workbook contacted me and said that the document is actually more than 14-years old and was never even intended to be an official resource uploaded on the Ministry’s website.

Separately, Yosanne Vella, who was mentioned here, has stated that the books for students aged 12 and older have actually been updated, and we assume they are probably of better quality.

It should be obvious that teachers aren’t obliged to write books as part of their work-remit, and they ought to have books available to them which facilitates their work. On the other hand, as previously stated, history isn’t even taught in schools as a subject unless it is chosen optionally at a higher age in preparation for the MATSEC Ordinary level exams. The history that is taught in schools is taught as part of a wider subject called Environmental Studies.
