Flow, an animated film by Latvian director Gints Zilbalodis, has won the 2025 LUX Audience Award, presented Tuesday at the European Parliament in Brussels.
A co-production between Latvia, France, and Belgium, Flow follows a lone cat whose world is destroyed by a flood. As he seeks safety on a boat with other animals, the film explores urgent themes such as climate change, migration, and resilience.
European Parliament Vice-President Sabine Verheyen called the award “a testament to the EU’s commitment to democracy, freedom of expression, and the power of cinema.”
The winner was chosen through a combined public and MEP vote. Other nominees included Animal, Dahomey, Intercepted, and Julie Keeps Quiet.
