Portuguese man arrested at Malta Airport caught with €250,000 worth of drugs in luggage

A 53-year-old Portuguese national was arrested upon arrival at Malta International Airport after authorities discovered approximately 11 kilograms of drugs hidden in his luggage, with an estimated street value of around €250,000.

The arrest took place early Saturday morning when police officers, working in coordination with Customs officials, carried out inspections on passengers arriving from a flight originating in Seville, Spain.

During the checks, one passenger raised suspicion, prompting a thorough search of his belongings. Inside his suitcase, officers found several packages containing what is believed to be around 10 kilograms of cannabis, estimated to be worth nearly €100,000 on the street, and approximately one kilogram of a substance suspected to be cocaine, with a street value of €150,000.

The man is currently being held in police custody as investigations continue. He was expected to appear in court this afternoon at around 2:00 pm, before Magistrate Lara Lanfranco.
