In coordination with the European Roads Policing Network (RoadPol), the Malta Police Force participated in a continent-wide road safety initiative called the “European Truck and Bus Week,” which took place from 5th to 11th May, 2025.
As part of the operation, Maltese authorities conducted approximately 30 roadside inspections across main roads in both Malta and Gozo. These checks targeted trucks and passenger transport vehicles, resulting in over 370 vehicles being stopped. In total, 84 fines were issued, 14 drivers faced charges, and one vehicle was confiscated.
The inspections focused on a variety of safety and compliance checks. These included verifying the presence and expiry dates of fire extinguishers, ensuring the general maintenance of vehicles, assessing whether cargo was within legal limits, and confirming the availability of first-aid kits.
Among the violations recorded were drivers not wearing seat belts, improper or non-functioning lights, driving without a valid license, and using mobile phones while behind the wheel.
