According to the latest released NSO statistics, the approved development permits for new dwellings in Malta have decreased by up to 17.4% in the first quarter of this year compared to last year’s first quarter. The localities with the highest number of new dwellings has been recorded in Żejtun, Żabbar, Qormi, Santa Venera, Saint Paul’s Bay and Ix-Xagħra in Gozo.
NSO statistics report that during the first quarter of 2025, 425 building permits for a total of 2,143 new dwellings were approved by the end of April. When compared to the corresponding quarter of 2024, the number of building permits and approved new dwellings decreased by 7.6 per cent and 17.4 per cent, respectively.
Most of the dwellings being built are apartments with penthouses coming second, and marionettes coming third, followed by terraced houses.
