The Malta national veterans’ team continued their international schedule with a commanding 5–1 win over Hammersmith FC in a friendly played on Saturday afternoon at the Mgarr Football Ground.
Under the guidance of coach Joe Micallef, the Maltese side displayed control and composure from the first whistle, combining experience and tactical organisation to dominate the match.
JP Mifsud Triganza and Manolito Micallef both scored twice, with Gareth Sciberras adding a fifth to complete a convincing performance for the hosts.
Hammersmith FC, a community team from the UK, showed determination but were unable to match Malta’s clinical edge in key moments.
The fixture formed part of a wider international programme promoting lifelong participation in football and celebrating the game beyond a competitive context.
Supported by Visit Malta, the match drew an appreciative crowd who enjoyed an entertaining afternoon of football in sunny conditions.
Malta’s veterans return to action this Saturday, when they take on Middlesex Wanderers in the Bobby Charlton Memorial Cup.
