The Futsal Malta Association (FMA) hosted a successful edition of the Enemed futsal awards night, honouring standout players, coaches, and officials from the 2024/25 season. The event was further elevated by the presence of UEFA futsal competitions manager Laurent Morel, who attended as guest of honour and praised the local development of the sport in recent years.
In the coaching categories, Zvezdan Vukovic was named best premier league coach, Kieran Bugeja took home the best challenger league coach award, and Jackie Abdilla was recognised as best women’s league coach.
Among the players, Giancarlo Sammut claimed the best Maltese player premier league award following a strong season with Ta’ Xbiex Futsal after returning to the domestic competition. Rising star Collin Sammut had a standout year, earning both the best maltese player challenger league and most promising futsal player awards.
A varied array of awards for local Futsal stars
In the women’s league, Leanne Micallef impressed in her debut season, winning both best Maltese player and top scorer awards after netting 13 goals.
Top scorer honours in the men’s leagues went to Ezequiel Alarcon of Swieqi United Futsal LECO7, who scored 24 goals in the premier league, while Hamza Harrat of Hamrun Futsal led the challenger league with 14 goals.
In the goalkeeper category, Clint Mifsud (Luxol St Andrews) was named best premier league goalkeeper, Matthias Borg (Hamrun Futsal) best in the challenger league, and Rachelle Borg (Lija Athletics) best goalkeeper in the women’s league.
The best foreign player awards went to Jefferson Breno (Luxol St Andrews) in the premier league, Gia Nikvashvili (Hamrun Futsal) in the challenger league, and Eliza Csik (Zero Sei Futsal) in the women’s league.
The evening concluded with a special recognition as Mark Zammit, captain of the Maltese national team and long-time Luxol St Andrews player, received the prestigious president’s award for his outstanding career and contributions to the local futsal community.
