Aaron Mifsud Bonnici charged with money laundering

Yesterday in Court, Aaron Mifsud Bonnici was charged with money laundering as reported by the Times of Malta. A freezing order of up to €1.6 million on his assets was also requested and upheld by the Court. He has a Swiss bank account which has sources of revenue that were never declared and is also suspected of tax evasion.

Aaron Mifsud Bonnici  was the lawyer of the General Workers’ Union. He accumulated his wealth during Joseph Muscat’s Labour administrations mainly as a fixer. For some reason, Joseph Muscat trusted him to do many different jobs and ended up wheeling and dealing with various shady figures, including Yorgen Fenech. He is also one of those charged in the Vitals case having represented the government over the fraud.

Aaron Mifsud Bonnici’s description as Joseph Muscat’s fixer is fitting. There may be several interesting aspects to his case that could shed light on instances of government corruption.
