Bormla Subbuteo Club triumphs at 2025 German Grand Prix, continues global dominance

Bormla Subbuteo Club has once again made Malta proud, claiming victory at the prestigious 2025 German Grand Prix in table football, defeating Catania (Italy) in the final. The match ended in a 1โ€“1 draw, but Bormla secured the title through a superior goal difference of +2, crowning yet another remarkable chapter in their ongoing international success.

Unbeaten Run to the Title

Bormla SC dominated Group 1 in a round-robin format featuring six teams, finishing top of the group with impressive results:

  • 3โ€“1 win over Barbarians

  • 4โ€“0 win against AS Hennuyer (Belgium)

  • 3โ€“0 win over Catania (Italy)

  • 4โ€“0 win against SC Heopfigheim (Germany)

  • 3โ€“0 win over BCS Schwalbach (Germany)

Advancing to the semifinals, Bormla faced one of the tournament favorites, St Stembert (Belgium), edging them out with a tight 2โ€“1 victory, before meeting Catania again in the final and sealing the Grand Prix title.

This win marks Bormla’s third consecutive international tournament victory following triumphs at the Messina Grand Prix and Athens Major, cementing their place as the worldโ€™s No.1 ranked team in the FISTF (Federation of International Sports Table Football) team rankings for over a year.

So far in this season alone, Bormla SC has won:

  • 5 Grand Prix titles (Caen, Eugies, Vienna, Messina, Ludwigsburg)

  • 2 International Opens (Mechelen, Malta)

  • Athens Major

  • 8 additional podium finishes from 20 tournaments

The team was led by Captain Jason Pisani, with a strong international lineup including George Ebejer, Belgian Bessim Golger, and Australians Christian Haas and David Busch.

Strong Individual Performances Across Categories

In the Veterans category, team captain Jason Pisani claimed gold, defeating Italyโ€™s Longo 2โ€“0 in the final. He topped his group before beating Daniel Scheen (Belgium) 2โ€“0 in the quarterfinals and David Busch (Austria) 2โ€“1 in the semifinals.

In the Open category, Wolfgang Haas reached the semifinals, while in the Womenโ€™s division, Kathy Busch advanced to the final.

In the youth categories:

  • Gabriel Ebejer finished runner-up in the Under 16, narrowly losing to Italyโ€™s Bisio.

  • Thomas Ebejer reached the semifinals in the Under 20 competition.

Total Medal Count and Acknowledgements

Bormla Subbuteo Club closed out the German Grand Prix with a total of:

  • 2 Gold Medals

  • 2 Silver Medals

  • 3 Bronze Medals
