Suspected dog poisoning incident in Xewkija sparks outrage among pet owners

A suspected case of intentional dog poisoning in Xewkija, Gozo, has raised alarm among pet owners after a local dog named Diesel narrowly avoided a potentially fatal incident.

While walking in the popular Ġnien Blankas area, Diesel’s owner noticed him eating something off the ground. On closer inspection, it turned out to be blue poison pellets mixed with galletti crackers – a worrying sign the bait was deliberately laid.

The dog was rushed to a vet who induced vomiting. Fortunately, Diesel had only ingested a small amount and is now recovering.

The placement of the poisoned bait along a busy dog-walking path has sparked suspicions of intentional harm. The owner removed the visible poison but warned others that more may have been scattered.

Authorities have been informed, and the public is urged to stay alert when walking pets in the area. Poisoning incidents not only endanger animals but also pose a threat to children and local wildlife.

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Animal Welfare on 1717 or the Gozo police.
