A 62-year-old woman tragically lost her life last night in a road accident that occurred at Xatt il-Barriera, Valletta, at around 10:00 p.m. According to initial police investigations, the collision involved a Subaru Impreza driven by a 23-year-old man from Raħal Ġdid and a Ford Fiesta that was parked along the side of the road.
During the impact, the 62-year-old woman from Ħamrun, who was reportedly near the stationary vehicle, became trapped between the two cars. A 69-year-old man, also from Ħamrun and inside the Ford Fiesta at the time, sustained injuries during the incident. Several other parked vehicles were also damaged in the crash.#
While the driver of the Subaru escaped unhurt, medical teams were quick to arrive on the scene to assist the victims. Sadly, the woman was pronounced dead at the scene. The 69-year-old man was transported to Mater Dei Hospital, where he was later certified to be suffering from serious injuries.
Magistrate Dr Ian Farrugia LL.D was informed and has opened a magisterial inquiry, while police investigations are still ongoing.
Fatal Motorcycle Accident in Pietà
Just hours before the Valletta incident, another fatal road accident occurred in Triq il-Marina, Pietà at around 7:30 p.m., claiming the life of a 58-year-old man from Żejtun.
Preliminary police reports revealed that the man was riding a Honda motorcycle when he lost control of the vehicle, struck a curb, and fell violently onto the road.
Emergency medical assistance was provided on site, and the man was rushed to Mater Dei Hospital by ambulance.
However, he was certified dead shortly after arrival. Magistrate Dr Ian Farrugia LL.D has also launched a magisterial inquiry into this incident as well, while police continue with their investigations.
