Malta’s tourism sector continued its strong upward trend in June 2025, with 357,834 inbound tourists arriving for holiday purposes, while a further 19,437 visitors travelled for business. The data, released by the National Statistics Office, shows a robust performance across all key indicators, including a 19.1% increase in tourist spending compared to June 2024.
The largest share of tourists were aged 25-44 (35.3%), followed by those aged 45-64 (27.4%). Tourists from the UK, Italy, and France made up a combined 43.6% of total arrivals, reinforcing these countries’ position as Malta’s core source markets.
Inbound tourists spent nearly 2.5 million guest nights in Malta during the month – up 8.6% from the previous year. A substantial 89.8% of these nights were spent in rented accommodation, and the average length of stay stood at 6.4 nights.
Tourist expenditure for June 2025 approached €395.9 million, marking a sharp 19.1% year-on-year increase. Average spend per night climbed to €159.5, reflecting stronger tourism demand and possibly higher price points across services and accommodation.
The islands of Gozo and Comino remained a popular side-trip or destination in their own right, attracting 239,332 tourists in June – equivalent to 61.9% of total inbound visitors, including both same-day and overnight stays.
For the January–June period, Malta recorded 1.81 million inbound tourists, up 13.5% over the same timeframe in 2024. Total guest nights rose by 13.2%, nearly reaching 10.7 million.
Tourist spending was also on the rise, with €1.56 billion in total expenditure — a 21.1% increase over the first half of 2024. Per capita spend grew from €812 to €866, a positive signal for tourism yield.
More than half of the tourists – 988,087 (54.7%) – included Gozo and Comino in their travel plans during the first half of the year.
