Japanese man arrested in connection with recent cat killings in Sliema area

After days of surveillance related to investigations into the recent killing of cats in various localities, police have arrested the main suspect – a 31-year-old Japanese man.

The investigation had been focused around the Sliema area, where police had reason to believe the individual allegedly involved was located. Acting on a description in their possession, officers spotted the man walking along Triq Manuel Dimech at around 3:00 a.m. and stopped him immediately.

Upon searching the suspect, police found a pair of latex gloves – similar to those reportedly used in the cat killings – as well as packets of cat food.

Following the arrest, a search was conducted at the manโ€™s residence, where police collected clothing matching that seen in security footage linked to the case.

The suspect is currently being held at the Floriana Police lock-up, while investigations continue in the coming hours.
