Man dies days after Seabank Hotel brawl: British tourist facing charges

Roderick Sciortino, the man injured in a poolside altercation at the Seabank Resort and Spa in Mellieħa last Saturday, has died on Thursday.

Sciortino was reportedly celebrating his daughter’s first birthday at the hotel with his partner Alexia Meilak, her family, and their parents when a fight broke out. During the incident, he was allegedly punched by British tourist Liam Joseph Stacey.

Stacey is currently facing charges of causing grievous bodily harm. He has pleaded not guilty.

During court proceedings held on Wednesday, it emerged that Sciortino had a pre-existing medical condition. His partner testified that he had previously spoken about having a brain tumour, and that following the incident, he had been placed on life support.

The exact cause of death will be determined by medical experts as part of an ongoing inquiry.
