Nerandra Modi doubles down on relationship with Russia: Trump and Putin to meet next week tentatively

India’s Prime Minister Nerandra Modi has doubled down on India’s relationship with Russia even describing Russia’s President Vladimir Putin as his friend. India has been threatened with new tariffs and sanctions unless it stops purchasing Russian oil. However, new tariffs and sanctions meant for China, India and Brazil seem to be taking a back-seat as discourse currently shifts on the prospective meeting between President Donald Trump and President Putin.ย According to NBC news the meeting may take place next week with Switzerland and Hungary being some of the places considered for the meeting.

Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky has not yet confirmed that he will be joining the meeting, however the Ukrainian President reiterated that NATO membership for Ukraine is an important condition for lasting peace. President Trump’s plan is for Ukraine to capitulate and give up its lost territory to Russia while giving up its goal to join NATO: both of these conditions are unacceptable for Ukraine with President Zelensky reiterating multiple times that Ukraine’s sovereignity must be respected.
