Police were called to Triq Melita, Raħal Ġdid, at around 9pm on Monday following reports of gunfire during an argument.
Preliminary investigations revealed that a 33-year-old man allegedly fired shots with a firearm during a dispute with three other men. Upon police arrival, the man locked himself inside his residence on the same street.
Officers engaged with the alleged aggressor, who eventually opened the door and was arrested. A firearm, believed to have been used in the incident, was recovered from the residence.
No one was injured during the incident.
According to TVM news, sources close to the investigation identified the alleged aggressor as Melvin Debono, known as “Il-Quws”. The same outlet reported that Debono has been granted bail at least six times in relation to other offences. Police are also searching for another man believed to have been involved in the argument with Debono at the time of the shooting.
Earlier this year, Debono was charged in court in connection with several offences, including reckless driving at excessive speed that led to a collision between a police vehicle and a parked car.
The case is being investigated by police, while Magistrate Monica Galea has been informed of the matter.
