The Environmental Health Directorate within the Office of the Superintendent of Public Health has issued a precautionary notice advising the public against swimming in the area beneath Dawret il-Qawra, St Paul’s Bay.
Authorities explained that contaminated water overflowed from the rocks, affecting bathing water quality and posing a potential health risk to swimmers. The source of the contamination has since been identified and remedied, but officials stated that the duration of the pollution remains unknown.
Warning signs have been placed at the site to inform the public. Once water quality is restored, the signs will be removed and a new press release will be issued confirming the area is again safe for swimming.
Environmental Health Officers are continuing to monitor the situation.
For further information, the public may contact the Environmental Health Directorate on 2133 7333.
