Hibernians FC terminate Justin Haber contract following suspended sentence

Hibernians FC have terminated the contract of goalkeeper Justin Haber with immediate effect after he was found guilty of harassing a girl earlier on Thursday.

The veteran shot-stopper was handed a two-year prison sentence, suspended for four years, and fined โ‚ฌ7,000.

The verdict sent shockwaves through the Maltese football community. Following an urgent meeting of the clubโ€™s top officials, a decision was taken to end Haberโ€™s contract without delay.

โ€œThis is to confirm that the agreement between the club and player Justin Haber has been terminated,โ€ Hibernians said in a brief statement.
โ€œNo further comment will be made at this time.โ€

Haber had rejoined Hibernians at the start of the season, returning to the Paola club as a back-up to Romanian goalkeeper Laurentiu Branescu.

Haber had a restraining order placed on him by the courts earlier this year after having sent abusive text messages to his sister. He resigned from the Floriana Local Council shortly after, where he was representing the Labour Party
