Qala Saints President Noel Mizzi and Nadur Coach Paul Azzopardi suspended for one year following match scuffle

Qala Saints president Noel Mizzi, who also serves as the Labour Vice Mayor of Qala, and Nadur Youngsters coaching staff member Paul Azzopardi have each been handed a one-year suspension by the GFA Disciplinary Commissioner following their involvement in a scuffle during last weekend’s Division One clash between the two rivals.

The confrontation erupted in the 73rd minute after Nadur player Joseph Xerri was shown a straight red card for a reckless challenge.

According to Nadur Youngsters, as Xerri made his way to the dressing room, he had to pass by the Qala Saints bench, where a Saints official allegedly directed racial remarks at him.

A scuffle then broke out involving Mizzi and Azzopardi, prompting police intervention to defuse the situation.

Following the match, Nadur Youngsters issued a statement condemning the incident, saying:

“During yesterday’s win against Qala Saints, our player Joseph Xerri was subjected to racial abuse from an opposing club official on the bench.”
