A 40-year-old Belgian national was arraigned in court earlier today, accused of importing cocaine into Malta after the drug was discovered hidden inside his stomach.
The man was arrested on Friday upon his arrival in Malta on a flight from Amsterdam, after authorities grew suspicious that he might be carrying illegal substances.
He was taken to Mater Dei Hospital, where medical tests confirmed he had swallowed 20 capsules containing approximately 300 grams of cocaine, with an estimated street value of just over €30,000.
Appearing before Magistrate Rachel Montebello, the Belgian man pleaded guilty to the charges. The court is expected to deliver its sentence at a later stage.
