During yesterday’s Parliamentary speech, the Prime Minister mocked the Opposition Leader’s proposal to introduce a trust fund for newborns in which newborns are awarded with an account of €5000 in this fund. He said that this propsoal was copied from President Donald Trump’s recent initiative as part of the so-called “Big Beautiful Bill.”
So what? The Prime Minister is probably delusional enough to believe that whatever he thinks and does in politics is a unique experience in life in the cosmos and not an imitation of everything that we have seen already playing out in history in different ways.
It’s a good proposal and the government should apply it. It is one of the only decent proposals that has been floated in the Maltese Parliamentary which would address a fundamental issue in today’s economy and that is the widening discrepancy between those who have access to assets and those who do increasingly are unable to own no asset at all.
