The EU Commission has abolished the Schengen system for Russian visa-holders in new visa restrictions rolled out today. EU High Representative and Vice-President of the European Commission Kaja Kallas, said that “Starting a war and expecting to move freely in Europe is hard to justify.”
Russian citizens visiting Europe will no longer be allowed to move freely across the continent, and their movement will be restricted to the country that issued their visa. Russians will have to apply for a new visa if they are in a EU country and would like to enter into another EU member-state.
A full ban on Russian visas was previously opposed by several EU countries including France and Italy.
