A 71-year-old woman is in critical condition following a serious traffic accident in Luqa on Friday afternoon.
The collision occurred at around 12:30 p.m. in Triq San Tumas. Preliminary police investigations show that the crash involved a DAF 85 truck driven by a 40-year-old man from Qormi and a Toyota Yaris driven by a 37-year-old woman from ลปurrieq.
Two passengers were travelling in the Toyota: a 70-year-old man and a 71-year-old woman, both also residents of ลปurrieq. A medical team was called to assist on site, and all three occupants of the Toyota were taken to Mater Dei Hospital for treatment.
The 71-year-old woman was later certified to be suffering from serious injuries and is currently in danger of dying. The condition of the other two remains pending.
Magistrate Philip Galea Farrugia has opened an inquiry, while police investigations into the incident are ongoing.
