ADPD-Green Party Leader and Councilor at Saint Paul’s Bay local council commended efforts by artist James Micallef Grimaud over his a new mural that is being painted on the side of an apartment block building in Xemxija. The project is personal initiative between Sandra Gauci and James Micallef Grimaud who collaborated with the residents of the building to paint the mural.
Sandra Guaci is also planning another mural in coordination with the Primary School of Saint Paul’s Bay and is currently seeking funding for the project.
Most apartment blocks in Malta have large, empty side walls, and the Planning Authority has failed to address this visual neglect. In many European towns and cities, local councils run active programmes to paint murals on the sides of buildings and apartment blocks to improve the aesthetic quality of the urban environment.
This is one of the first ever murals to have been painted legally on the side of an apartment block in Malta. James Micallef Grimaud is known for his murals and graffiti art. He also painted the large tower crane in Dock 6.
