Ħamrun Spartans make history with victory against Lincoln Red Imps

Ħamrun Spartans made football history with their first ever victory in a UEFA Conference League group stage after defeating Gibraltar’s Lincoln Red Imps 3-1 at the National Stadium.

Ħamrun Spartans made Maltese football history on Thursday night, staging a superb comeback to defeat Lincoln Red Imps in the UEFA Conference League League Phase.

The victory is the first ever win by a Maltese club in the League Phase of a UEFA competition, a landmark moment that cements the Spartans’ growing reputation on the European stage.

After dominating the opening 45 minutes but wasting several chances, Ħamrun were stunned when Lincoln took the lead after the break. For a moment, it looked as though the Spartans might once again be left to rue missed opportunities as had occurred in previous encounters.

But Giacomo Modica’s side refused to give in. The match turned when Graeme Torrilla was shown a red card, and the Malta champions immediately seized momentum. Substitutes Mouad El Fanis, Semir Smajlagic, and Ante Ćorić all found the net, completing a spirited turnaround and securing a precious three points.

The win moves Ħamrun closer to the play-off positions and marks a historic chapter in their European journey.
