Property sales in November keep upward trend: unemployment still at record lows

The latest statistics from the National Statistics Office (NSO) show a slight increase in property sales registered in the month November 2025 compared to the same month of last year, with both final deeds of sale and promise of sale agreements slightly up.

1,083 final deeds of sale relating to residential property were registered during November 2025 โ€” an 8.4% increase compared with the same month in 2024. The total value of these transactions reached โ‚ฌ321.5 million, representing a 4.5% rise over the same period pf last year.

Of the final deeds registered, 987 (91.1%) involved individual buyers (households), accounting for roughly โ‚ฌ259.3 million of the total value โ€” around 80.7% of all reported sales. Companies and other entities made up the remaining share of transactions.

In terms of geographic distribution, the Northern Harbour and Northern districts recorded the highest numbers of final deeds of sale, with 258 and 230 signed contracts respectively.

Meanwhile, employment figures keep showing Malta’s very high employment rate compared to other European countries. Total employment stood at 337,234 accounting for 66.8% of the population aged 15 and over. Unemployed persons stood at 9,434 (1.9%) while inactive persons totaled 158,304 (31.3%). The average monthly salary ranged from โ‚ฌ3,467 for managers to โ‚ฌ1,336 among persons employed in elementary occupations. Among the employed population 38.8% had a tertiary level of education and the unemployment rate stood at 2.7%. Most of the inactive people were retired (42.8%).
