Somers Farkas: the most hated Ambassador in Malta

The US Ambassador Somers Farkas has received a very antagonistic reception from readers of the Times of Malta. All that the US Ambassador to Malta needed to do to elicit a deluge of angry comments is to say that she was going to apply President Donald Trump’s foreign policy.

Fundamentally, the anger is about President Trump but is directed at her as his representative. Having been his personal friend may also not be helping the local reception.

There has never been in Maltese history such collective anger directed at a foreign Ambassador in Malta. I also remember the US Ambassador in Malta during the Iraq War. I remember both Anthony H. Gioia and Molly Hering Bordonaro and they were never treated with such disrespect even when protestors were protesting in front of the US Embassy in Floriana.

I suppose this is how President Donald Trump is “making America great again”.
