Xewkija Tigers claim top spot as Qala Saints stun Nadur Youngsters

Xewkija Tigers FC ascended to the summit of the GFA BOV Gozo Football League 1st Division following a commanding victory over Xaghra United, while Qala Saints FC delivered a statement win by routing Nadur Youngsters in Sunday’s action at the Gozo Stadium.

Xewkija Tigers moved into first place with a clinical 4-1 win over struggling Xaghra United. Brian Alejandro Parada opened the scoring in the 33rd minute to give the Tigers a narrow lead at the half. The advantage could have been doubled in the 38th minute, but Marcelo Barbosa saw his penalty saved by the Xaghra goalkeeper.

The Tigers eventually pulled away in the second half. Marcelo Junior Barbosa made amends for his earlier miss by scoring in the 69th minute, followed immediately by a goal from Matthias Said just a minute later. While Ibrahim Salis managed to pull one back for Xaghra in the 81st minute, Parada sealed the victory—and the top spot in the standings—with his second goal of the match in the 89th minute.

In the afternoon’s other fixture, Qala Saints produced one of the most dominant performances of the season, thumping Nadur Youngsters 4-0. The Maroons were led by a brace from Wallisson Alberto Dantas Dos Santos (Bahia), who found the net in the 27th and 49th minutes.

Joseph Zammit added a second for Qala in the 37th minute, ensuring a comfortable lead at the break. Any hopes of a Nadur comeback were extinguished just two minutes into the second half when Bruno Da Cruz made it 3-0. The result leaves Nadur Youngsters languishing in the lower reaches of the table, while Qala solidifies their position in fourth.
