Carnival celebrations gathered momentum on Saturday as improved weather conditions allowed organisers to deliver a wider programme of activities in Valletta following the wind-hit opening night.
With gusts subsiding to more moderate levels, St Georgeโs Square once again became the focal point of the festivities, hosting competitive dance performances and costumed entertainment in front of packed stands.
Dance companies returned to the stage with high-energy routines, colourful choreography and elaborate costumes, maintaining the strong standard that has become a hallmark of the competitive sections of Malta Carnival.
Families and children filled the capital throughout the afternoon, with many attending in costume, while street performers and roaming characters added to the festive atmosphere in the surrounding streets.
Following Fridayโs safety restrictions, carnival floats were once again able to take part in the celebrations as conditions improved, restoring one of the most anticipated elements of the programme.
Large crowds gathered along Vallettaโs main arteries to watch the satirical and artistic floats make their way through the city, accompanied by marching bands and dance troupes.
Across the channel in Gozo, Nadur continued to attract thousands of revelers for its spontaneous carnival, with participants donning grotesque masks and darkly comic costumes in a unique celebration that contrasts with Vallettaโs more structured programme.
The Gozo festivities stretched late into the night, with improvised performances and street theatre creating a lively and unconventional atmosphere.
Saturdayโs successful programme marked a return to normality after the weather disruption of the opening day and set the stage for the remaining days of Carnival week, which will culminate in the traditional celebrations leading up to Ash Wednesday.
