On Saturday the 14th, Valentine’s day, 21-year-old Ukrainian refugee Kateryna Tovmash and her boyfriend who is also enlisted with the US Army, were murdered in the state of North Carolina by a US citizen.
There has been no uproar in the US by the Republican Party and the MAGA movement this time round. In September 2025 Ukrainian refugee Iryna Zarutska was murdered by a black man while she was riding a bus. The murder caused major political uproar and Iryna Zarutska was commemorated widely by the US government including at its embassy in Ukraine. Iryna Zarutska was murdered by a black man with a criminal record.
Kateryna Tovmash and Matthew Wade were murdered by Caleb Hayden Fosnaugh, who was also Kateryna’s ex-boyfriend. Caleb Hayden drove to Kateryna’s home, broke in and shot the couple in cold-blood. The murderer had no criminal history and is a White male.
